Hi,

My name is Anders, I'm the CEO of Brattoo Propaganda Software. It feels like yesterday when I first wrote about macOS Big Sur and Photos 6 and yet, it is time for the next big update; macOS Monterey and Photos 7. The first beta release for developers was a few weeks ago, this summer the first public beta will be available for those brave enough! Let’s have a look at this.

Take care and stay safe.

Duplicate Annihilator and macOS Monterey

Yes, as usual Duplicate Annihilator is fully compatible with the latest version of macOS and Photos. This means that Duplicate Annihilator for Photos v6.0.0 is available for download today! It is fully compatible with macOS Monterey and Photos 7. Download it from https://brattoo.com/#photos

macOS Monterey – what’s new in Photos?

Since photos is my main interest I thought that we could have a quick look at what is new. First, we have general improvements such as improved Faces/People detection and then we have a much improved Moments section. The really cool new things are for those of you who have a computer or iPad with the new M1 Architecture which I wrote about in an earlier newsletter. On those machines we have the all new Live Text feature. Live text means that any text, in any photo, can be selected, copied, translated, looked-up or searched for. This feature is quite cool and will be very useful.

Another really nice feature is that now you can import original photos, including edits, from a second Photos library. This will greatly help when merging libraries. This is a highly requested feature, and a bit surprising for me personally, as I was just about to finish a tool that did exactly that! Well, great minds think alike, and that is life. I suppose my tool is still useful since my software will also work with earlier versions of Photos, for those with older machines that can’t run macOS Monetary and Photos 7.

Since I wrote about XMP sidecar files in a previous newsletter and that Photos 6 can't import them I'm happy to tell you that Photos 7 can indeed import those sidecars. In a future newsletter I will dig more into the new features of Photos 7.

1 on 1 training sessions

I’ve decided to continue with my 1 on 1 training sessions, and it is indeed great fun to meet you guys. If you haven’t tried, it but feel that it might be something for you, please feel free to email me. The training sessions can be about anything, and will be customized based on your requests. I have over 25 years experience in the Mac platform, I have been an Apple Solution Expert and have held trainings in various softwares over the years. Training sessions are on request by contacting me on training@brattoo.com. Each session is 1 hour and costs 79 USD. If you want to learn more about something, email me at training@brattoo.com and we’ll work out a session just for you.

The free apps section

As I have mentioned in previous letters we have received requests on how to automate some tasks in Apple Photos or tasks related to photos. Those tasks might be tedious to work out manually but are easy for us to solve. The apps include a tool to set the Photos Titles based on filename (with or without file extension), a tool to copy and apply GPS coordinates between photos, a tool to copy XMP sidecars to image files and finally a utility to set the correct file dates on image files based on the photo date stored in the metadata within the image files. You’ll find all our free apps at https://free.brattoo.com.
